Credit Card Pre-Authorizations
Why we may place a temporary hold on your card and when it is released or captured.
Last updated: August 4, 2026 · Working draft
What a pre-authorization is
A pre-authorization (hold) temporarily reserves funds on your card to confirm it is valid and that funds are available. It is not always a completed charge. Your bank may show it as pending.
When DropHaulIt uses holds
We may pre-authorize for the estimated rental total, security against overweight or extra days, or other amounts disclosed at checkout. The hold amount and timing depend on the offer and payment provider.
Capture vs release
When the order is completed (or fees are finalized), we capture the approved amount. Unused holds are typically released by your bank within a few business days; timing varies by card issuer.
Questions
If a hold looks incorrect, contact [email protected] with your order ID and the last four digits of the card. This page is a working explanation pending final legal review.
